Jay Hendrix

Jay Hendrix is a 17-year old charismatic triple threat who loves to shoot hoops, play ping pong, and challenge himself on and off-stage.

Jay's professional career launched at age 11 when he was cast as Stevie Dewberry in the 84-show run of
the new musical “Because of Winn Dixie”, alongside an incredibly talented cast, including Broadway legends J. Robert Spencer, Isabel Keating, Roz Ryan, Kacie Sheik, John Edwards and Jamie Mann, working directly with Tony-award winning Director John Rando (Urinetown) and writers Duncan Sheik (Spring Awakening) and Nell Benjamin (Mean Girls, Legally Blonde), at the Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam, CT.

Just weeks after closing, Jay hit the road touring cities across the United States as Flick (the one who gets his tongue stuck to the flagpole) in the national tour of A Christmas Story, the musical, and then returned for the 2021 tour to play the iconic bully, Scut Farkus, from this American classic.

Since then, Jay has continued to work, with some favorite credits including Slow Burn Theatre's Matilda the Musical (Nigel); Broadway at LPAC's productions of The Full Monty (Nathan Lukowski), Memphis the Musical (ensemble), and 9 to 5 (Josh Newstead); Inside Out Theatre Co.'s West Side Story (Baby John); and the Broward Center for the Performing Arts' Elephant & Piggie's "We are in a Play!" (Elephant Gerald).

Jay lights up the stage with his smile, comedic chops, and dynamic physicality, and has performed in over 30 musical theater productions, several commercials, and earned his first feature film credit in Billy Corben's "Screwball".

Jay practices numerous forms of dance including tap, jazz, & hip hop, and enjoys activities that stimulate his creative mind. This math whiz & chess player also has impressive memorization skills, and has recently added Italian opera to his repertoire over the last year.

Jay completed the Broadway Artists Alliance Jrs. Intensive as a voice major, as well as intensives with Broadway Dreams and Making It On Broadway, providing him the opportunity to learn from and train with some of Broadway's best, including Christy Altomare, Derek Klena, Rob McClure, Quentin Earl Darrington, Samantha Pauly, Jeremy Jordan, Jelani Remy, Jodie Langel and more.

Jay is an Honors student and a quick study, and is great with dogs, cats, and younger children, including babies.

Jay has a Coogan account, valid work permits in CA and NY, is fully vaccinated and is a member of Actors Equity Association.

Jay lives in Fort Lauderdale, FL with his mom, dad, and cat, King Rascal the Great.

It was such a pleasure having the opportunity to work with Jay. He is a remarkable actor and a charming kid to boot. I was astounded by his level of preparation and his inherent sense of comedic style — he is incredibly sophisticated for an actor his age (or any age)!
- Mark Schneider, Theatre Director & Youth Acting Coach, New York, NY
Jay has an infectious charm and charisma on-stage. He is a very smart actor, who is able to take notes or make quick adjustments. He lights up any scene, and his wit and talent make him a natural performer.
- Eva Shure, Founder, Red Carpet Kids, NYC
