Jay Hendrix is a 12 year-old actor, singer and dancer based in South Florida. Prior to the pandemic, he was headed into tech week for the Slow Burn Theatre production of Ragtime, the musical, at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. The production has been rescheduled for 2021.
Jay had the honor of spending the 2019 holiday season touring the U.S. as the character Flick in the Broadway national tour of A Christmas Story, the musical.
Just weeks before heading out on tour, Jay wrapped an 84-show run as Stevie Dewberry in the new musical “Because of Winn Dixie”, directed by Tony winner John Rando (Urinetown) and written by Duncan Sheik (Spring Awakening) and Nell Benjamin (Mean Girls, Legally Blonde), at the Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam, CT.
Jay lights up the stage with his smile and has performed in over 20 musical theater productions, several commercials, and earned his first feature film credit playing a secondary character role in Billy Corben's "Screwball", released April 2019.
Jay practices numerous forms of dance including tap, jazz, & hip hop, and enjoys activities that stimulate his creative mind. This math whiz & rubik’s “cuber” also has impressive memorization skills and loves to play basketball and try out new moves.
Jay completed the Broadway Artists Alliance Jrs. Summer Intensive as a voice major in 2018, as well as both a Broadway Dreams intensive and a Making It On Broadway intensive in 2020, giving him the opportunity to learn from and train with some of Broadway's best.
He's a straight A student and a quick study, and is great with dogs, cats, and younger children, including babies.
Jay has valid work permits in CA and NY and is a member of Actors Equity Association.
Jay lives in Fort Lauderdale, FL with his mom, dad and Boxer/Shar Pei mix, Beaux Jackpot.
It was such a pleasure having the opportunity to work with Jay. He is a remarkable actor and a charming kid to boot. I was astounded by his level of preparation and his inherent sense of comedic style — he is incredibly sophisticated for an actor his age (or any age)!
